Asthma is a much prevalent chronic disease and nearly 200 million people over the world are presently bearing from it. With increasing urbanization, Asthma has grown a primary obstacle that approaches the world annually and the fatality rate (death rate) is growing at a disturbing rate.
What is Asthma?
Asthma is defined as an intense lung disease that irritates and narrows the tube-like airways which carry air in and out of one’s lungs. Asthma is repeated occurrences of wheezing, briefness of breathing, coughing and chest tightness. Sputum may be generated from the lungs by coughing but it’s often difficult to produce up. Asthma is not fatal and the events of death resulting from Asthma attacks are not very common. Only one-third of Asthma victims experience severe Asthma attacks and hospitalization outcomes from the darkness. If a patient is not taking proper medications and care, then the situations can only become worse.
Causes of Asthma You Must Be Aware Of
Environmental causes:
Asthma triggers differently in different people. Exposure to substances that cause allergies and irritants can trigger signs and symptoms of asthma and can be the cause. Asthma results mostly by Respiratory infections like the common cold, animal dander, airborne allergens like pollen, cockroaches and dust mites, mold. Air pollutants and troubles like gas, cold air. The most obvious cause of Asthma is the poor and dirty quality of air that we breathe in regularly. It is advisable to be aware of these.
Consumption causes-
Another cause of this chronic disease is certain medications including aspirin, naproxen, ibuprofen and beta-blockers, Sulphites and chemicals present in some types of beverages and food, including processed potatoes, dried fruits, shrimp, beer and wine, Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which the stomach acids rise upwards into your throat. Also, you should never take a Painkiller if you have Asthma. Most of the Asthmatic patients are sensitive to painkillers and should avoid the use of Aspirin and Ibuprofen. The intake of Painkillers enhances the creation of pro-inflammatory leukotriene and this factor worsens Asthma conditions.
Genetic Causes– Asthma can also be due to genetic reasons. Asthma is hereditary and the inherited ancestral composition can cause Asthma. The asthmatic parents can pass on this disease to their children. Thus, if a person has a family history of Asthma then it is like that he or she stands a higher chance to face the problem as well.
Physical activity and related causes– Doing sports-related and exercise-related activities in cold and dry environments can increase the chances of an Asthma attack in several folds. As people tend to breathe through their mouth after exercise, the inhalation of cold and dry air leads to the contraction of the airway passages and worsens the conditions of Asthmatic patients. However, safe exercise under properly controlled conditions can help to combat Asthma.
Thus recognizing the causes and working or diagnosis and aftercare can keep the disease in control.
